Hugo named Director of Medical Physics

I am pleased to announce that Geoff Hugo, PhD has been promoted to Director of the Medical Physics Division within the Department of Radiation Oncology effective July 1, 2021. He served in the role as interim division director since May, 2020 and has done an exceptional job! This role plays a very important part in our mission to ensure quality and safety in the care for our patients, lead innovative research and academic initiatives to advance the field of radiation oncology.  

Geoff received his PhD in biomedical physics from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a full Professor with tenure and joined our department in 2017. He has made a number of accomplishments, notably Geoff is world renowned for his co-development of radiation ablation of cardiac arrhythmias and advancing adaptive radiotherapy. He is an international leader in the field of real time imaging and motion management. He is a member of the radiation therapy and biology study section in the national Cancer Institute.
