Brian Baumann, MD, an incoming Department of Radiation Oncology faculty member, has been receiving attention for recently published research that he conducted at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania concerning the safety of antiperspirant use by women undergoing radiation therapy for breast cancer.
Despite the common advice to forego antiperspirant during the course of treatment, Dr. Baumann’s findings suggest that antiperspirant use does not increase the amount of radiation received by the skin, nor does it increase skin damage from radiation treatments in the area.
