MRI-guided radiation therapy is back

This week our team successfully completed an adaptive treatment on a patient, once again utilizing our ViewRay Systems MRIdian machine. The MRIdian uses magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to precisely target tumors in real time. This machine is also equipped with adaptive technology, allowing doctors to adjust treatment plans each day to account for changes in organ position, which can help limit side effects. ViewRay Systems (formerly ViewRay) has resumed servicing for MRIdian machines and continuing the mission of providing personalized radiation therapy to patients. BJC/WashU Medicine radiation oncology teams worked many hours together to bring our MRIdian machine back online.

“Online adaptive radiation therapy with MR guidance empowers physicians to treat their patients with highly personalized treatment plans,” said Dr. Hyun Kim, Chief of the Adaptive Radiation Therapy Service. “The MRIdian allows us to move beyond the aging notion that a single plan is appropriate for multiple days of treatment – this technology has the potential to improve patient outcomes.”
